The Space Between: Welcome in 2024

The gap between Christmas and New Years proved to be a wicked shift of energy.  This is the space I love most - the space between having a clear vision and knowing the big desired outcome - the best part of life, the moments in between.

A conversation the first day of the new year, with a new ElevatHer client sparked some thoughts on how I got here, to this place in between. She was asking me if I had some special exercise to kick off her new year and new investment to capture clarity for what she wants in her work and business.

I gave her these journal prompts that have been so powerful for me, and thought you may like them as well.

This multi-passionate woman would sit at her desk every day, yet feel like she wasn’t getting much done because she was frozen by thoughts of, “which businesses should I focus on when I don’t have enough time? Having followed Jodie for a few years, Stephanie reached out to her in December, ‘22 for coaching and joined her Main Street Collective, a 6-month immersive 1:1 and group coaching experience in January ‘23. Since then, Stephanie feels free from the paralysis she was feeling just one year ago.

Going Full Circle: How I Learned to Pull Back to Push Myself Forward

Lately I’ve been reflecting on sharing the journey of my business partnerships, and I can’t help but think about how far I’ve come and how much has changed since I was a young and scrappy newspaper ad sales rep back in 2002.

I had goals…lofty ones, and I was willing to work myself silly both at my job and at home to achieve what I believed was success, and portray that success to others (even if it was often a false portrayal). Boy did I have a lot to learn.

The #1 Place to Show Up for More Revenue: An Email Marketing Soapbox & Guide

Recently, I listened to a podcast by Email Marketing Genius - Jenna Kutcher - and I loved it, not only because I preach this (btw, 4 years ago I created this EMAIL MARKETING GUIDE) - but because when I work with new clients, 8/10 have emails from current, past, and potential clients that they’re not using to build connection, educate, inspire, or sell.

I am here today to join my thoughts with Jenna’s advice.

Schooled by a 17 Year Old

It’s graduation week! My daughter Lauren graduates high school this week and I am feeling all the feels. Joy - Stress - Excitement - Sadness - Fun - Anticipation - Anxiety - you name it…I’m feeling it.

But,the greatest of all the feels right now is PRIDE!

Lauren has given Matt and me SO MANY REASONS to be proud (her sense of humor, kindness, work ethic, smarts, beauty, athleticism, just to name a few). Then in true Larry fashion (Larry’s our fun nickname for her), she surprised us recently with another attribute to add to her list…her ability to essentially coach a room full of adults. And, I believe her lesson is worth sharing with you today.

The New Intentions of Starting a New Business

Did I ever tell you about the first business I opened? I think it was 2010 or 2011.

I was employed at the time; Facebook was just introducing business features and I was obsessed. I was really pressing the company I was working for at the time that this was the NEXT BIG THING and we needed to set up and invest time on Facebook. They were not convinced, so instead I started talking to some friends that owned businesses themselves, or their parents did.

Discovering my Word of the Year

There’s always all this talk about choosing a WORD OF THE YEAR, and I am not gonna lie – I LOVE IT!

I began choosing a word of the year when I first learned about it in 2018, and I have stuck with it ever since.

Each year, I usually know exactly what I need to do to grow, evolve and keep a forward momentum. (If you didn’t know already, I am not a supporter of status quo.) Often the focus is so obvious, I simply cannot avoid it.

This year not so much.

If this Sounds Like You, Stop

On December 1st, I had a slightly tense interaction with my daughter Lauren. She is 17. You know…the one that I shared the college tour experience with.

Let me set the scene.

I was walking into the house with 2 arms full of groceries, and Matt and Madelyn were physically man-handling the 8+ foot Christmas tree into the front window. I was in a pretty solid mood, excited to finally get the tree up (we’re ahead of the game this year in hitting 12/1), when this occurs.

Crawling Out of Imposter Syndrome

The She Built This Lakes Region event was really something amazing last Thursday with close to 140 women nestled into the beautiful Lakeport Opera House. The panelists, including myself, shared thoughts, and reflections to some really fantastic questions. I could go on and on about the event, the energy, and the experience, but really I want to share one of my biggest takeaways.

Someone in the audience asked if any of us on the panel ever faced or struggled with IMPOSTER SYNDROME. I responded “YES!” immediately.

Re-visiting Your Vision: How Clarity Produces Momentum

Keep in mind, your vision should NEVER be concrete…it’s supposed to change!

As our experiences occur, we grow, learn, and change and that has a vital impact on our vision growth. If we don’t periodically check in on that, then our immediate actions that become habitual, will continue to support the old version of our vision and not the new one that has evolved. This stalls our momentum toward the achievement that we truly desire.

Holding Two Opposite Emotions at the Same Time

Owning a business can feel a lot like the first time at summer camp, right?
