When You Stop Chasing and Start Believing: How Main Street Collective Helped Kelly Dyer Achieve Great Success

IPIt was a pretty scary moment for Kelly Dyer, now a New York Life Insurance Agent, when she walked into her then boss’s office to let her know she would be moving on. What she had working for them was great; a steady salary, benefits, and a supportive boss. Something inside kept nudging her though, telling her “it’s time” - time to live out her dream of working for herself.

So, although part of her was thinking, “what the hell are you thinking Kelly,” she took her life and health insurance licenses she’d kept up for 25 years to set out on her own and live out her passion - connecting people with Life Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, Disability and Fixed Annuities.  Kelly dove into a very competitive industry.

She was nervous, but prepared. Kelly had the skills and knowledge to do well, but what she says she lacked was the belief in herself.

Kelly had worked with Jodie on a few occasions, starting with her former employer when they did a program with Jodie in 2019. Kelly appreciated what she had learned, and even kept a “Jodie” folder on her computer desktop to easily reference. So, as she set out on this new venture, Kelly wanted to absorb more from Jodie, and the community she brings with her.

Kelly attended Jodie’s 2020 live event, CEO Live where she learned from Jodie, and heard presentations from several guest speakers who shared knowledge in each of their own areas of expertise. Inspired to take things a step further, Kelly then signed up for a 90-minute deep dive (VIP Strategy Session) with Jodie in 2021.  That’s when Jodie asked Kelly some big questions, and through that exercise, Kelly says she found that she was “driven at the time, but not a big thinker.” Kelly didn’t believe she had big dreams.

Jodie challenged Kelly to think bigger, asking her to tell her just one lofty goal she has. “Okay,” said Kelly. “I just want to book 100 life cases in a year.” Jodie told her to write it down, and six months later, Kelly’s goal was achieved! The first person she called to share the news was Jodie who responded with, “I know. Kelly, I just told you to believe.”

And when Jodie, along with She Built This Founder, Emily Aborn put on She Built This Lakes Region in 2022, Kelly was there too, listening intently to the words of wisdom from Jodie, Emily, and their female entrepreneur panelists.

There was no stopping Kelly now! She was ready to GO ALL IN and enrolled in Jodie's signature 6-month immersive 1:1 and group coaching experience, Main Street Collective.  Kelly says, “what I think I got from Jodie was, number one, the biggest takeaway that even led into Main Street was to believe. Like stop chasing stuff, Kelly. Believe in what you offer.”

From that point on and even amid personal struggles, Kelly, with the support of Jodie and the Main Street Collective, slayed. She broke records with New York Life, made the President’s Council in just eight months, was agent of the year two years in a row, and landed her biggest client ever. Kelly shares, “I mean it just went crazy. 2022 was the hardest year of my life, but the best year of my life. And I say that with all good intentions. I went through a 20 year divorce. I donated my kidney. And I stayed on track and landed up here in my business.”

Kelly credits a lot of her success to having Jodie’s support, which provided her guidance, accountability and a genuine belief that she could do everything she set out to do.

In all, it was a growth journey over four years in the making, using different levels of support from Jodie that allowed Kelly to take small steps, yet yield big results.

“I just became this amazing person,” says Kelly, “but she'd (Jodie) say, ‘you didn’t Kelly, you always were’. I never saw that until someone like Jodie saw that in me.”

Jodie held Kelly to high standards, supported her, and helped her to believe in herself as much as Jodie believed in her. “She is a stellar businesswoman,” says Kelly. “But her tactic, her advice, the skills she taught me and the support she gave me is like no other.”
