Holding Two Opposite Emotions at the Same Time

Earlier this week a friend of mine took her kids to a summer day camp for the first time. She was telling me about that morning and all the emotions that came with it. The kids (5 and 8 years old), were experiencing an array of emotions, waking up excited shouting… “summer camp is today!” Then, shifting to a more level tone as they ate their breakfast, saying, “Mommy…I’m kind of nervous.”  As they made the drive to summer camp, a camp where they’d be out in nature, learning survival skills, exploring for wild creatures, and all the things that make a child gitty with excitement, they shared, “Mommy…I’m feeling excited, but I’m also nervous.”

Owning a business can feel a lot like the first time at summer camp, right? We get so excited about things in our business, but many times, because we’re also feeling fearful, we limit ourselves by not doing what we set out to do.  The difference between summer camp and owning a business though is, your mom isn’t there to make you do it. Ha!

So, first I’m going to tell you what my friend told her kids…

Having two opposite emotions at the same time is totally normal!

Look…whether you’re launching a new product, creating a new program, welcoming a new client, just starting to build your business, or whatever exciting thing it is you’ve got in the works, OF COURSE you’re going to run into a mixed bag of emotions! One minute you’re feeling happy, downright pleasant and the next you’re frustrated.

Or you’re so freaking excited about your next new thing, but the what ifs of it all have kicked your fears into high gear.  Yup…been there!

But, here’s the thing.  DON’T FIGHT IT!  LEAN IN.

Don’t run away from that pesky little fear that wants to freak you out.  Instead, unravel your fears and emotions, and bravely move forward to that next thing that totally fills your cup, yet scares the shit out of you.

You have amazing ideas, killer instincts, and an awesome product or service.  Don’t let limiting beliefs be the chain that holds you back from achieving your next level greatness.

I’ll tell you what…I get it!  I too have almost let my own limiting beliefs hold me back.  It took me forever to launch my To the Point Podcast because while the idea absolutely thrilled me, I was totally intimidated by it. And, if I had let limiting beliefs hold me back, I’d still be serving clients only as the agency I started with and you certainly wouldn’t be hearing from me today as a business coach with 1:1 and group coaching, DIY digital education programs, a podcast, live events, and more!

And, if I allowed my fears to outweigh my excitement, I wouldn’t be sharing my newest program with you today.

If like me and so many other entrepreneurs, you want to grow, but are feeling all the fears and don’t know what to do about it, Main Street Collective may be just the thing you need. I know when I welcomed support into my life, it made all the difference, and that’s what Main Street Collective will do for you. You’ll get guidance and support from me, as well as a community of like-minded peers and mentors to help you call yourself on your bullshit, bust through your limiting beliefs, and make a major impact without the hustle and overwhelm.

So, if you’re ready to be more like the excited kid who wakes up on summer camp morning, I’m here for ya babe. This is your opportunity for growth! And, when you tell me you’re having two opposite emotions at the same time, I’ll be the first to tell you, “it’s okay,” but next out of my mouth will be “let’s work through this together.”
