My Story

Get comfy…it’s story time!

In 2012, I left my cushy corporate career with the intention of choosing my family first, my health, my future, and to support my husband in taking over his 18-year-old family construction company.  When we started JMG and what became Clearwater Construction, things didn’t go as planned. JMG was not even supposed to be a company! I was just going to consult a few projects to keep me in the marketing and project management game and become a construction business manager.

I left with two locked in “consulting & support” gigs and was going to spend the first summer with my children (then 10, 7, & 6) at the seacoast in Maine, working “remotely”. My dreams were all lining up.

After about a year of discussion, and 5 months of planning, the family business operations and information were turned over.  It was then that the shit hit the fan.

It was July 5, 2012.  With payroll to be processed the next day (about $5k), I sat down at our small camper kitchen booth top and logged in to the bank account only to discover a ($38.00) balance.  Did you gasp? I certainly did.

I immediately went from hope and possibility to shock and awe.  We were looking forward to growing what we were led to believe was a moderately healthy business, only to be smacked in the face by this terrifying reality.

Ultimately, the first 12 months of our world then began to unravel- our dreams, our family, our marriage, our finances, my husband’s business, our home, our entire world built over 12 years – and it did a complete 180. Quickly we entered survival mode.

We retracted from everything and everyone.  We held our breath, got creative, downsized, re-calibrated, and sat in some of the deepest emotional trauma of our adult lives. This went on for 3 years, and then took another 3 to recover; it as a head down do the hard things 6-year journey in all.

The outcome?  Clarity on what we wanted most, who was most sacred in our life, how we wanted to show up, and faith/trust that we are always provided for.

I have experienced, lived, witnessed, felt, faced, and cried my way out of survival to build 2 beautiful brands.   We have lived through survival into the transition of designing the life of our dreams with our businesses …my husband and I. This is my story to tell, my experiences to share, my strategies to gift, and my shoulder to support.

So, what has happened since all this went down, let me introduce you to the Jodie I am today:

Hi… I’m a business coach, marketing strategist, owner of five small businesses, a mother of three busy teenagers and wife of my best friend/business partner, Matt.  After 20+ years in marketing and serving my clients through “do it for you” services, a light bulb clicked.  I could instead be teaching them all I know through coaching.  I was known for asking my clients the hard questions and making them think deeper about their marketing and business strategy, so why wouldn’t I focus on that in my business?  Afterall, nothing makes me tick like seeing a business succeed!  My passion is to help business owners achieve the life they desire through the container of their business.

As you read, I learned this the hard way and often it was very lonely. I do not want that for you, or anyone for that matter. What also know is that when I got just so far and plateaued it was when I elicited the help of business coaches and mentors that achieved what I was working so hard for to help me, things changed and they changed fast. This being me to today:
